Let’s get one thing straight, I have zero capabilities in painting, drawing, sculpting, or whatever other talents it takes to be considered an artist or to have an opinion on it. Nonetheless, I’d like to introduce to you an artist that you may or may not have seen or heard of before, Donald Robertson.
I first discovered his work a little over a year ago when I picked up a colorful and flirty, printed tee from J.Crew. At the time I didn’t pay attention to the collaboration between Robertson and J.Crew, but several months later when my parents returned from a trip to NY and mom raved about spotting his work in Chelsea, I realized this guy was someone to keep an eye on.
With aimless color and lively ideas, his work embraces a childlike feel, and I’m kind of obsessed with it. I like to imagine what goes through his mind when he begins a project. Each piece is so different from the next, yet all related by the abstract and colorful trademark synonymous to his name.
So now I’ll leave some favorites from his instagram (@drawbertson) and website, and allow you the bliss of first impressions.
As always, thanks for reading,
RR
